20 Years To Singularity
Ensuring a fair technologically-driven future
This article is about technology, sustainability and the future of the human race. It’s meant to provide a high level perspective on the trajectory and future of humanity and our inevitable rendezvous with singularity. With the exception of an unforeseen catastrophic event, or a sudden shift away from the current social discourse, we’re on a trajectory for a singularity-type event in the near future.
We’re only 20 years away from singularity
The Law of Accelerating Returns is a theory proposed by inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil, which suggests that the rate of technological progress is increasing at an exponential pace. This means that as technology advances, it becomes easier and faster to create new innovations, leading to even more rapid progress in the future. To back his claims, Kurtzweil points to the fact that the processing power of computers has been doubling roughly every 18 months for several decades, leading to a rapid increase in the power and capabilities of digital technology. In reality that fluctuates from time to time, but both Kurtzweil and Moore argue that new technological paradigms are becoming more frequent.
According to Kurzweil, this acceleration will lead to a “singularity event” in which…
