The concepts of Transhumanism and Singularity have been a source of fascination for me for many years. I wrote about it in the past and I believe we will achieve singularity in the next 20 years.

Just imagine my amazement when I found out that a YouTuber by the name of Fireship managed to connect his brain to Chat — GPT and give it prompts using its brainwaves!

In this article I wanted to spend some time and explore the range possibilities as well as some of the limitations in Fireship’s approach of connecting his brain to GPT-4.

First off though, I do recommend watching the video first.

How it works

Before we look into the possibilities and Limitations of this, let me briefly explain how the process works.

On Brainwaves & Neurosity

At the core of this phenomenon lies the human brain, a complex and remarkable organ that produces a variety of electrical signals with distinct characteristics. Our brainwaves shift and change in response to the demands of different tasks and activities.

  • Delta waves (0.5–4 Hz)
    During periods of restful sleep.
  • Alpha Waves (8–12Hz)
During waking hours and heightened state of alternes and cognitive engagement with the world around us,
  • Beta (13–30 Hz) and Gamma waves (30–100 Hz)
Our brain oscillates between the two during moments of intense concentration, such as when playing a fast-paced game or performing complex mental calculations.

Neurosity works in similar way to Neuralink and it sits comfortably on your head.

The great thing about Neurosity is the fact has a JavaScript SDK — meaning that you can actually stream your brainwave activity to your computer and use it to programmatically do pretty much anything, such as interacting with ChatGPT.

In order to detect certain patterns, Neurosity allows you to train your brain activity with certain thoughts such as “think of a…
