Woman Buys Million Dollar Mansion After Crypto.com Mistakenly Refunds $10 Million Instead of $100

After Crypto.com, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange has refunded a user with $10,000,000 instead of $100 the user along with her sister proceeded to acquire a luxurious villa with the newly found wealth.

The Melbourne based woman had applied for a $100 refund in may of 2021 but due to an internal error, received $10 million instead. Furthermore, the exchange remained unaware of the issue for 7 months, with this only coming to light during an end-of-year audit.

Crypto.com naturally pursued the user to recover the money, informing the court that the blunder happened because an account number was entered in the payment field — in other words, a classic case of PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair).

Because Crypto.com had been silent about it for 7 months, some of the money had already gone into a luxurious mansion located in a Melbourne suburb. However, this is where the money trail ends, and by extension the fun.

The woman, along with her sister, who had been sitting on the money in a joint account were ordered by a judge to sell the property and return the funds after the exchange started pressing charges against them and taking them to court. This is likely to be the final outcome, as the…
