OneCoin’s Crypto Queen, responsible for a $4 billion scam, ‘killed on yacht’
lgarian-born German citizen Dr Ruja Ignatova is responsible for creating the cryptocurrency scam OneCoin, which attracted investors worldwide who put around $4 billion into the scheme before Ignatova disappeared with the money in 2017. Ignatova was listed on Interpol and Europol in 194 countries, accused of stealing over €88 million (£74.9 million) along with her accomplices. In 2022, she was added to the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list.
Last year, investigators found taped conversations in the home of Lyubomir Ivanov, the head of the General Directorate of the National Police in Bulgaria, who was suspected of working for drug lord Hristoforos Amanatidis. The transcripts of these taped conversations, which were published online by two Bulgarian investigative journalists, claim that Ignatova was killed on the drug lord’s orders to cover up his involvement in the OneCoin affair. The incident allegedly happened on a yacht in Greece in November 2018, after which Ignatova’s body was dismembered and thrown into the Ionian Sea.
The murder was allegedly carried out by a man named Hristo Hristov, who was detained after he was caught with a large amount of heroin in the Netherlands. The Bulgarian Interior Ministry has not confirmed the authenticity of the documents or made any official statements.
