Fake Internet points have been around since the inception of web2.0 but what if they had an actual monetary value and would be used to reward conversation, debates, and insightful posts made by community members?

Well, this is exactly what the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit has been doing for a while now. r/CryptoCurrency (r/cc for short) has coined an innovative way of rewarding users based on how much positive contribution they bring to the community using cryptocurrency MOONs, the subreddit’s own token which is currently live on Arbitrum Nova chain.

Users can earn moons by posting content that the community finds useful or insightful. Reddit has a Karma point system where users can Up or Downvote posts. The more Karma a post or comment has, the higher it will rank on the subreddit’s Hot page or comment thread, bringing more attention to it. You post good content, you get positive karma, you post bad content, you get bad karma and your post is buried to never see the light of day.

This is an efficient form of collective curation where the community’s hivemind decides what is high-quality, relevant content for that subreddit and pushes it to the top of the page.
